A Visit From our Tonbridge and Malling Mayor!

Computers 4 Africa was delighted when the Mayor of Tonbridge & Malling, Councillor Howard Rogers accepted an invitation to visit the charity to our head offices in Aylesford, on 14th January 2014.  The Mayor has a keen interest in the IT industry and is always looking for new ways to support both the local and international community.

Cllr Howard Rogers, Mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, said: “As someone who has worked in the software industry for over 30 years, I’ve watched many desktop and laptop computers get to the end of their commercially viable lives and been thrown in a bin or skip.  I had no idea that organisations such as Computers 4 Africa could turn unwanted working hardware back into equipment that can be used to educate and seriously improve the lives and prospects of so many others.  Being based in our borough, it’s easy to donate to them and the re-use is so much better than sending old kit to landfill.”

The visit included a multimedia presentation and tour of the facilities at Computers 4 Africa introducing the charity, the work they do and their impact in Africa.  Computers 4 Africa are a registered charity that offers a FREE and secure solution to IT disposal in the UK but more importantly they provide technology, to schools and community projects across Africa.  It is vital not only to be efficient and environmentally sound but everything the charity does is to help people living and studying in Africa by narrowing the digital divide.

“As an international aid charity working locally, it is motivating to see the Mayor taking time to visit us and observe the work we do in his local constituency.  We look forward to working with our local council in the future,” David West, Chief Operating Officer at Computers 4 Africa.
